We have been devoting our lives to pugs for the past 13 years. If you have had the pleasure of being owned by a pug than you will understand the love and devotion these little ones draw from you.
We are a small breeder and have a couple litters a year. We don't breed different kinds of dogs, only pugs. Our pugs were carefully selected with the intention of producing exceptional pugs. Our pugs are our family first, their wellbeing, happiness and comfort is a top priority. We don't breed often, as it takes a lot out of them. For us this is a labor of love.
We also compete in conformation dog shows occasionally.
Mainelypugs receives top notch prenatal and postnatal care as well as the appropriate supplements they need, such as nutri-cal, pet-cal, Barlean's Flaxseed Oil. We feed all our pugs Wellness All Natural Brand dog food and treats.
The moms have their own spacious nursery in the home. When the moms are in their last week of pregnancy I sleep in their nursery, to rub their bellies, scratch their itches etc, just to assure them they are not alone. When the puppies are born, they receive 24 hour care for weeks. Mom does a lot of the care taking the first few weeks, but I am there to keep a close eye on them, and to assist in keeping mom comfortable while nursing. This is the most vulnerable stage in a pups new life. They cannot hear, see or control their body temperature. So for me piece of mind is worth keeping a close eye on them. We also have an audio/visual monitor in the nursery so they can be observed when not in the room.
Their nesting area is kept warm and clean.
We don't allow any visitors until the pups have received their first set of immunization for their protection. Parvovirus can be carried on shoes for months and kennel cough can live for a couple of weeks. Mainelypugs advises if you are adopting a puppy from us that you not attend dog shows, grooming facilities, dog parks, and the like for at least two weeks prior to the visit.
Mainelypugs prides ourselves in having a happy, clean environment for all pug members of the family. It's a truly great feeling to have sweet adorable puppies and to receive praise and happiness from the new owners. The puppies can go home when they are 10 weeks old. Occasionally we will keep them longer depending on how they are maturing.
Every litter is great experience, getting to know each of the new little pug angels. It brings us pure happiness and joy.
Mainelypugs receives many inquiries on available pups... A couple of the important things we look for when placing a pup...
Is there someone home for the pup most of the time?
Are all family members in agreement on having a pug?
Do they have the means to continue to provide good care? Do you have a fenced in yard or keep your pug on a leash. And importantly you have the commitment to take care of your pug through their life.
You will receive weekly pictures through email so you can see the litter mature. Your new pup will go home with a harness & leash, Wellness All Natural puppy food, favorite toys, nylabone, an e-packet full of helpful tips such as housetraining, as well as a copy of the contract and guarantee. Our relationship does not have to stop after you have taken your new puppy home. I am only a phone call away, if you have questions, or just want to talk pug. : ) Our philosophy is that these pups are still an extension of our family.
If you are interested in acquiring one of our pugs, please go to the "Adoption" link and fill out the questionnaire, we will respond usually within a week.
Here is some advice if you live too far away to acquire a pug from Mainelypugs....
Some helpful tips when searching for a companion... Be cautious of breeders that breed more than 3 types of dogs. Could be a puppymill, in puppymills these poor guys don't get the one on one care they deserve.
Also the living conditions of the kennel is important too, it could mean the difference of a sick pup and a healthy pup and to put it in other words high future vet costs to normal routine vet costs. You also want to be able to see the parents on the premise too. Seeing the parents are good indicators on how your pup will turn out and mature. And by all means never buy from a pet store please. Pet stores keep the puppy millers in business... AKC registration is important too, this gives a documented history of the pugs ancestors.
